Pair with a real Beef...

Sir Ian Botham had a prickly encounter with Lindrick’s opening hole during his charity endurance challenge.

Beefy and European Tour player Andrew ‘ Beef’ Johnston were at the former Ryder Cup venue as part of an endurance challenge which saw them play 18 holes in one day in 18 different cricketing counties.

Two helicopters carrying the players - including six amateurs who had paid a tidy sum at auction to be part of the day - and a camera crew touched down on Lindrick’s practice ground just before 7.30 am to complete the Yorkshire leg.

They headed to the first tee to play their third hole of the day having started out at Rockliffe Hall at 5.15 am before flying to the Marriott Worsley in Lancashire.

They were greeted by club captain Martin Hepworth, professional John King and other club officials and members before Beef stepped up and smashed his drive to within 70 yards of the flag on the 402-yard par 4.

Botham found the gorse with his drive leaving him a very 'prickly' second shot that didn't quite go to plan when he moved the ball less than a yard, which left his opponent howling in fits of laughter.

The shot was recorded live on Sky Sports News before a birdie from Beef’s team in the Texas scramble format won the hole to put him two up. They were soon back in the air en route to Worksop where Lee Westwood’s mum Trish was one of the well-wishers.

The 'Beef v Beefy' Challenge finished up at Johnston's home club North Middlesex in darkness after helicopter issues on the way.

The result was an 'honourable draw' according to Sir Ian and importantly a significant contribution to the Beefy Charity Foundation which helps to fund projects relating to chronic illnesses and other challenges facing young people.
