Jack takes the Mick!
Rotherham’s Jack Whaley has enjoyed a stellar first season in US college golf.
Whaley, who is back home for summer and has been on Yorkshire Men’s duty, has been awarded the prestigious NAIA 2024 Phil Mickelson Award.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes represents 21 conferences and 250 smaller colleges and 83,000 athletes across America.
The Mickelson recognition to Whaley, who is at Dalton College in Georgia, was for ‘Outstanding Freshman’ – a first year student in their terminology. He was ranked inside the top two in their official National Ranking during all of 2024 and led the top-ranked and 2024 NAIA National Champion Dalton College Roadrunners with seven top-10 finishes, including tied-4 at the NAIA National Championship, with wins at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational and Bojangles Invitational.
The Doncaster native earned Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Player and Freshman of the Year as well as PING First-Team All-America and PING All-South Region honors.
