Meet The President

Laurence Wood, a Bradford GC member and former Bradford Union President, became the new President of the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs at the Annual Meeting at Pannal on March 22nd. He took over from Calverley’s Terry Collins and his President Elect for 2024 is the county’s Junior Golf chairman Philip Woodcock of Scarborough North Cliff. The well-travelled new President – he is a qualified ocean-going yachtmaster – has also been a member at West Lancs, Preston and Farnham golf clubs in the UK, plus Hataitai and Wellington golf clubs in New Zealand. However he has been a Bradford member for 45 years and was club captain in 2001. An accountant by profession with a long-time career in the IT industry, he later ran his own business consultancy until retiring. Having been as low as an 8- handicap, Laurence has also been responsible for health and safety on the Union board and is a level-2 qualified R&A referee.
